What does a Downsizing Consultant do?

A downsizing consultant is a downsizing and moving expert who helps individuals and family transition from a larger home to a smaller house, condo or retirement community.

If you’re ready to downsize but are unsure of how to go about it, a downsizing consultant may be the right fit for you. You may be at a point in your life where your kids have moved out of your home, or it’s simply just time for a new chapter. You may be reviewing options or have already decided it is time to downsize to a new home. The task can be overwhelming, exhausting, and for many, emotional.

It’s difficult to go through decades of memories and know what to do with it all. Now is the time to bring in professional downsizing and moving experts who will help make the process easier while keeping you organized and on schedule.

What exactly does a downsizing consultant do? Here’s our list to get rid of the mystery for you.

  • Home walkthrough with client: Evaluate what will stay with you through the move; what can be sold or consigned; what can be donated; what can be trashed; and what can be shipped to family and friends.
  • Coordinate vendors: A downsizing consultant can find the best movers, consignment shops, storage facilities, junk specialists and donation facilities.
  • Clean up: When your old home is empty and you’re ready to move into the new one, a downsizing consultant can arrange for cleaners.
  • Move coordination: Need help with the move from one home to the next? A downsizing consultant can hire movers, supervise the move and even help unpack at your new home.

Downsizing can be a long, grueling process. At Fini, we pride ourselves on being sensitive, helpful, and understanding  during all aspects of this often emotional process, while also staying committed to your goals to downsize without sacrificing what is important to you.
