Isn’t it frustrating when you know that you’ve been in too much of a rush to do something simple that will save you time and avoid aggravation later? A simple example of this is saving someone’s contact information in the right place– in your Outlook or cell phone.
You know what we’re talking about, right? You’re trying to call back someone that called you last Thursday afternoon, but you never saved their number in your contacts. So instead, you have to scroll through your phone’s call log and you accidentally dial the wrong person. Now you have to make excuses, “Sorry, I dialed the wrong number, but yes, how are you…” How embarrassing.
Five minutes have already passed and now you’re running late. A call that should have taken you two minutes now has taken much longer, and you still don’t know the right number! (Can you tell that this has happened to us at least once or twice?)
Here are a few ways to help you remember that number.
- As soon as you get a call from an unknown number, either save it as a name in your contacts right away or delete the number if you don’t think you’ll need it (telemarketers, for example.) This will be helpful when you are scrolling through your recent calls and every number isn’t a series of digits all looking the same.
- When entering the contact in your smartphone, use the notes section to include any keywords that will make it easier for you to remember that person. For example, you can put the company they work for, the name of the event where you met them, or even a characteristic like, “Told hilarious jokes.” Then you can use the search tool in your address book to search through your notes if you can’t remember the person’s name.
- Get handed a business card? Make any notes on the business card you need and take a quick picture of it on your phone. You can reference the photo when you have a free moment and enter the details into your address book at that time.
- Email or text a reminder to our team and we can keep track of the contact information and remind you when it’s time to call.
